Shelley will serve as Director for World Premier Opera, Karkinos.

In collaboration with Living Proof Exhibit, the QCSO has commissioned local composer and Augustana Professor Jacob Bancks to create an opera entitled Karkinos that will provide hope and celebration for those with cancer and all who love them. Inspired by direct conversations with people impacted by cancer, this emotional multi-media work featuring chamber orchestra, vocal soloists, and choir, depicts the story of a beautiful empress who is forced into battle with the unseen monster Karkinos the night before her coronation.

A Soldiers Tale with Quad City Symphony Orchestra
Shelley Cooper will be be the Narrator for the Quad City Symphony Orchestra A Soldiers Tale Concert .
Join seven talented QCSO musicians for a varied program of works for one to seven musicians. Principal bassoonist Benjamin Coelho explores the rhythms of jazz in Libby Larson’s Jazz Variations for Solo Bassoon. Dancers from Ballet Quad Cities join principal clarinetist Daniel Won and principal bassist Dave Scholl to perform the Swing Era inspired Benny’s Gig composed by Morton Gould for the great jazz clarinetist and bandleader Benny Goodman. The full group comes together to perform Stravinsky’s influential and rhythmic ballet The Soldier’s Tale which depicts the story of a young soldier who makes a deal with the Devil. Join the musicians for a Listener’s Guide before intermission to learn more about this engaging work.
